Lesson1-Day 5 Until He Comes. . .

After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven." Acts 1:9-11

It's not a day for standing and watching - it's a day for seeing and waiting.

It's not about gazing into the sky waiting for Jesus to return. It's about expanding Chist's reign. First, we must see it. I must have a focused vision on the living reigning Lord. I must pursue knowing my Lord. The world sees Jesus no more but we through faith do.

And what are we to wait on? We must wait on the Spirit to empower us. We are not waiting for the Spirit to come. That happened at Pentecost. When I am empowered by the Spirit my witness will be alive and fruitful. This quote from John Stott has become my prayer:

" It is therefore impostible for me to worship God truly and yet not care two cents whether anybody else worships him too. . . Worship that is pleasing to God will inevitably send us out to bear witness of the name we have sought to honor."

What are the evidences of being empowered? I seem to sense that you might think it will happen to us all at FCC while we wait, like what happened at pentecost. But you say thats when the Holy Spirit came but didn't empower.
Scripture illustrates there was always an initial evidence of Christs baptism.
I wonder what it is.
The gift of the Holy Spirit is given without any conditions to a believer who is waiting. While we are waiting lets keep focus on Christ and expect the empowering to come with an initial evidence that we know, we have been empowered and equipt to present Christ to our world. See Ya

Yes, I do expect it to happen at FCC. There are many praying for it. And I believe God will be faithfull to our prayer.

You are right in that we cannot just wait and do nothing. We must actively and intentionally pursue Christ as you stated.

I look expectantly!
